The world famous Portobello Road is located in the Notting Hill district of the Royal Boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea in west London. It is home to the Saturday Portobello Road Market, known for its antiques and second-hand clothes. The market is always well-attended with people taking in the ambiance of brightly coloured shops and houses squeezed tightly together along the street. The road itself has been made famous for its reoccurrence in pop culture, movies and music. Disney’s Bedknobs and Broomsticks cast performed to the song Portobello Road, although it was actually filmed in Burbank, Calif. Famed children’s book character, Paddington Bear, constantly visits his friend Mr. Gruber at his antique shop on Portobello Road, and the film, Notting Hill, starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, was set and filmed on the street. The area also hosts the Portobello Film Festival every August.
